Sleep is necessary for the body to function well, if the body does not get enough sleep, it can cause serious problems. Sleep deprivation is a condition where a person is getting insufficient sleep. This condition may cause short-term memory loss, increase the risk of heart diseases, diabetes, and obesity. It could also permanently degrade cognitive capabilities. Also, Ruthann Richter, Stanford’s director of media relations for the medical school’s Office of Communication and Public Affairs, stated that sleep deprivation can cause myriad negative consequences, including the inability to concentrate, poor grades, drowsy-driving incidents, anxiety, depression, thoughts of suicide and even suicide attempts.
Almost 92% of teenagers don't get enough sleep due to biology, technology and societal expectations according to Juliann Garey. Change start with yourself. If we manage our time well, live in a healthy lifestyle and focus on the important things, we can solve this problem. As teenagers, we have a lot of work, especially in our schools. We are given a lot of tasks to do but we don't act fast, we procrastinate. Instead of hiding behind your gadgets, start what is needed to be done. With this, you can sleep early. Exercise regulary, have a balanced diet too and discipline yourself .
If we do not address this issue, more teens will be sleep-deprived. Change starts within you. Help yourself to be aware and avoid habits that are bad for you and your health.
