Regardless of your views on abortion, we can all agree that it is a terrifying, very difficult and serious choice for a woman to make. It should not be joked about, but it was in Teen Vogue's recent article - written by Whitney Bell - titled 'What to Get a Friend Post-Abortion". The article, here http://www.teenvogue.com/gallery/post-abortion-gift-guide , trivializes and minimizes the trauma women go through both before and after the decision of abortion is made.
In the article, the writer suggests buying period panties because "there will be blood", and they also "rock yo' world". Also, an F U Uterus badge - because that's really what women want after making a life-changing choice. There is another badge featured, saying "WE WON'T GO BACK", which disregards the feelings of women who do regret their abortions. What is also disgusting is, considering Teen Vogues' target demographic, that they suggest such young girls are capable of being escorts in abortion clinic.
The language used in the article disrespects the seriousness of the issue of abortion. It approaches the target demographic in a shallow, joking manner which is not appropriate. The writer, Whitney Bell, should apologise and so should the media outlet Teen Vogue.
