Problem Yes! Big Problem, CNA’s Are under appreciated, Under paid, Over Worked.
Us as CNA’s are very unappreciated, not a day goes by we want the recognition from upper management to just say hey good job today. CNA’s are under paid. Normal Pay range in Texas is 9.50 to 12.50. We are the backbone for the RN or LVN. We are barely making it on the pay we receive. We go to school from 4-8 months, pay anywhere between 800 to 1200 dollars to learn a trade. Pay range would be acceptable starting at 15.00 to 18.00 we work hard and we go unnoticed. We spend our time to care for patients who some family don’t come visit during holidays or anytime their there. Select few come back to visit their family members.
CNA’s go overworked when we are short staffed we get anywhere between 12-26 patients, most days when we are short staffed the residents don’t get the care they need because your pressed for time. If we have a patient ratio we have more time for our residents. Less hospital visits, less bed/pressure sores, let’s patient falls. More time to spend with a patient instead of 1-2 mins with a patient can turn into 5-7 mins without rushing. With that being said we need a patient ratio and more pay cna are the back bone to nursing homes and hospitals.
