Revolutionary Army started this petition to Team AVCon

This one is for the Adelaide community pop culture enthusiasts, the cosplayers, the geeks, the gamers, the film buffs, the TV addicts, the outcasts and the rebels. AVCon was made with love in the beginning, it was the culmination of us, the COMMUNITY that made it. But now, we don't go because we love it, we go because it's only one of two options.

All of you deserve better and I will do everything I can to enrich the community, like you have my life. I would be alone without the friends in the community that I have made, so I hear your frustrations and will work with you to make this convention loved again. Let's begin by not being fuelled with hate but having the time to make sure they hear you with this petition. Of course, we'll give them the benefit of the doubt as they are volunteers. However, as a brief and former staff member, I can assure you that you have every right to be worried about how things are conducted. It's also no coincidence that management, particular the Convener and higher-ups have been in their position for years and been a part of AVCon's initial success to its continued decline. It's time to give Team AVCon the damn wake-up call they need to finally listen to the community instead of living in their own egotistic bubble of superiority.

Why now? First off, controversy before the convention even begins is never a good sign and unfortunately soured the mood for the weekend. With the opening ceremony and lack thereof a ceremonies officer, coordination issues, volunteer/attendee grievances, harassment/bullying, layout and venue planning, the gap between Team AVCon and some attendees/exhibitors/artists is ever growing. These aren't tiny cracks if they're surfacing now, something's gone wrong if we're noticing. The other issue is the lack of AVCon attention given to the cosplay competition, the biggest draw for the event. Where was the winnings list? Or photos of the winners, why take away the prize money in favour of cheap, plastic trophies? Why not put a further emphasis on the ones who actually put love and attention into what they're passionate about. Of course, there are many oblivious to the happenings and still had a fantastic time, which is great. But when the general consensus says otherwise on their social media (I sure hope Team AVCon doesn't harass me for this petition) then changes have to be made.

But it's easier to list everything negative isn't? It'd be easier to elect an entirely new committee but no one's challenged them for so long. They're untouchable, like the Elite Four, the Elite Ten Council, Akatsuki,Oracion Seis and Team Rocket. Unfortunately, until someone or the committee steps up to the plate, then we have to persist. But I have a few quick proposals, aside from truly listening to the community this time. I propose a Community Liaison Manager, keeping in check and overseeing information made from the Convenor, down through the ranks so that everything is kept consistent. Issues tend to stem from massive miscommunication and departments kept a part from each other. In short, their job is to make sure they listen to the very community they're doing this for since they can't seem to do it themselves. Perhaps, a Community Liaison Team to keep the committee in line - made up of fresh AVCon attendees and OG, AVCon alumni. Finally, I propose a massive meeting between the committee responsible and all those affected by the running of this year's AVCon. They need to face the music and I will facilitate this meeting.

The Adelaide community has showed me how loving everyone can be. You've given me the power to believe in myself and now it's time for us to unite so that our compassionate ideals can keep us safe from ego. Conventions will be our safe haven and we deserve its warmth to comfort us away from the norms of society. It's where we should be happiest and I can't wait for changes to be made.
