A mental health day is a great opportunity to gain another day. Yet, this system is flawed in so many ways. The mental health days are there for you to take a break. The system we have in place is fully virtually, so you'd expect us to be allowed some type of virtual peace.

I apologize if it seems disrespectful but I and the signers of this petition believe that you should be able to have a mental health day to focus on mental health and not to worry about more assignments as if it was an asynchronous day. I personally can not understand how you're going to say that the Mental Health day is there to give you time for "meditation" and "connect with a friend" and yet more often than not we're going to end up spending the day doing this work anyway.

We understand the pressures of limited school hours in this virtual space. We ask that we be held accountable for the material covered, but that we not turn in any assignments from the day of.If you're not able to lighten the workload, then we ask that you please at least push the deadlines another day. Advocating that this is a reward we earned and achieved is not the way to go unless you're going to make the day a reward itself and is not another source of stress. Students are scared to use the day because the work that comes along with it is even worse than the day-to-day schedule of work. This mental health day has become more of a turn- off than a reward or an opportunity to recharge, and it won't stop being that until it's changed.

If you're not going to handle the "Mental" health day correctly, then please do not offer it as an incentive.

Thank you for listening and for considering our position.
