In Forsyth County, they have taken books about people part of the LGBTQ+ community, people of other races or ethnic groups (other than white people), or authors part of the LGBTQ+ community in schools for having “sexually explicit content. This is inappropriate, these books are perfectly fine for being in schools, especially middle and high school. Some of the books they have banned are “Nineteen Minutes, by Jodi Picoult”, “Juliet Takes a Breath, by Gabby Rivera”, and 7 other books. They have also banned a book about a Holocaust survivor telling his story along with his dad’s. This is unacceptable considering that one of the books is about the Holocaust. Yes, I understand why teachers and superindents may think these books are inappropriate for elementary schoolers. But, our world. is changing every single day. If these kids don't learn about it now, when will they? We deserve to have our voices be heard, so sign this petition to get our books back into schools.
