One Two three started this petition to Tbilisi state medical university

This is a petition created on behalf of the students of Tbilisi state medical university.

With the current state of the COVID-19 virus, we believe that it is not safe whatsoever for the restart of universities to be in person and not online teaching, like the previous semester was taken.

The university plans on getting students from various countries like India (https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/india/ link shows almost 4 million total cases, 85 thousand daily cases and no sign of a decline) and the UAE (https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/united-arab-emirates/ 70 thousand cases with also an incline in the number, with no signs of it decreasing as of yet). These are just the countries where the current charter flights are being held, you will also have students from countries like Kuwait (almost 90 thousand cases as of now), Saudi Arabia ( https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/saudi-arabia/ 320 thousand cases as of now, also not showing a decline) and many more countries from where your students are from. Right now Georgia may have a very small number of cases as compared to these countries, but with the amount of people the restart of university will bring, you will for sure have multiple cases of COVID 19 come up with these students entering the country.

You also had the idea of 8 students in one group, which might bare no significant results, since the tsmu classrooms are already too small for any form of social distancing to be practiced with this number of students inside. You also have lectures, which unless canceled, will hold a number close to 60-80 students in just one lecture hall.

Along with this, just the other day, 2 Nikora workers that are located RIGHT INFRONT OF THE UNIVERSITY, were found to be carrying the virus with them (https://www.google.com/amp/s/report.ge/en/amp/society/coronavirus-confirmed-to-nikora-employees-in-tbilisi/

The country also witnessed a record high number of daily cases, which does not make things look any better for the future (https://agenda.ge/en/news/2020/2699

As a medical university, health of an individual is one of the main topics you discuss and aim to help with, yet your decision to reopen the university and endanger the health of multiple students with you only makes your university look very questionable.

The first time online classes were held, there was around a 100-200 thousand cases of COVID-19 in the entire world, and now when you decide to reopen everything, you have 26.3 million total cases with almost 9-10 million currently active.

With this we would inform you that people signing the petition are refusing to endanger themselves for something so avoidable, and are requesting the university to rethink its decision to restart its classes, and just hold them online like the previous semester until the world is in a stable position.
