Taylor University administration ought to give a pass/fail grading option for the current Spring 2020 semester to all graduating seniors. These students are senior level students who are on track to graduate after this Spring 2020 semester (those who would have walked in the formerly May 23rd graduation commencement ceremony). The reason this is a decent request is because of the fact that all scholarships and graduation honors have already been processed. Which means that the classes these seniors are currently taking online have no effect on either of these factors. These classes are only necessary for the fulfillment of the foundational core or the major required credits. It would be better to allow the students to have the option of having their classes be pass/fail. All class work and grades should not be judged on whether or not the answers are correct, rather they should be given based on whether or not the student has put in the work. Passing grades would be given to the students who simply complete the work. Failing grades would be given to students who do not complete the work. With all classes taking a virtual format, students are now required to learn the material of every one of their classes on their own. Online courses are not designed to take the place of an entire educational system, rather they are to be a means of education along side everyday life. Due to the very nature of online classes, it is wishful thinking that all students will be able to complete their courses with just as much, if not more academic vigor than they would on-campus. For these reasons and more, it is proposed that the pass/fail option be given specifically to graduating seniors, if not all students.
