The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops have abused this privileged status that the citizens of the United States have conferred on them; they have repeatedly and egregiously politicized their religion in an attempt to impose upon all United States citizens their own narrow dogmatic creedal beliefs.  At present on their Website is a Call to Legislative Action where they discuss at length their opion on legislation and provide an tool where they instruct Catholics to send e-mails to their members of Congress.

Letter to
President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Cardinal Timothy Dolan
Commissionor, Internal Revenue Service Douglas H. Shulman
The United States taxpayers generously subsidize not-for-profit religious organizations by granting them the privilege of tax exempt status. However, the Internal Revenue Code clearly states that this extremely generous exemption from taxation is predicated upon the religious organization not politicizing its own religious beliefs, not attempting to directly influence law and government policy, and not using its status as a religious organization to circumscribe the Constitutional freedoms of American citizens.
