Tax Payers of La Mirada and Surrounding Areas Demand Pickleball Courts
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the United States. There is an absence of pickleball courts in La Mirada and the surrounding areas. Some city residents are driving upwards of 30 minutes (spending precious time and fuel) to utilize courts in other cities. Many of these courts are crowded and limit play time.
People of all ages, even people with minor mobility handicaps, are eager to play this excellent sport, but many people are becoming discouraged from playing the sport because of the shortage of pickleball courts.
The aim of this petition is to bring attention to this issue and compel the city of La Mirada to retrofit some of the existing tennis courts at La Mirada Regional Park for pickleball.
As a local resident who frequently visits La Mirada Regional Park for daily walks at various times of the day, I have noticed that the tennis courts almost never reach full capacity. It is apparent that La Mirada can retrofit 2 of the 12 tennis courts for pickleball without inconveniencing the tennis community at this location. Doing so can yield up to 8 pickleball courts, as depicted in the photo provided.
I urge the city of La Mirada to heed this petition. Making these pickleball courts will incentivize more local residents to play this sport which provides tremendous exercise and lots of fun.
