Replace Toxic Tire Mulch with Standard Wood or other Natual Mulch

A group of concerned parents in Collingswood has come together to ask the school district to remove the rubber tire mulch from the district’s elementary school playgrounds and return to the practice of using wood mulch.  Our main thesis is that rubber tires contain a lot of known hazardous chemicals, so why expose our kids to the potential risks of exposure, when other natural products are available to serve the same purpose.  We prepared a short report outlining our concerns.  It is posted here:https://drive.google.com/ file/d/ 0B2rb2C4b2nPoWjZXTVM0dk5QSnM/ view?usp=sharing

The building and grounds committee of the Board of Education graciously invited us to a recent meeting, and they agreed to consider our request.  One obvious question they asked us was “how widespread is the support for this change?”  Our sense is that most parents, once they consider the issue, would prefer wood mulch.  We ask that you sign this petition to show your support for this change.
