To get Lowndes County to reconsider Joel Jones conviction for a crime he didn't commit.
Joel Jones was convicted of two counts of aggravated assault and sentenced to thirty-two years for a crime he did not commit. He allowed law enforcement to search his house and his car but they did not recover any weapons. The police also administered a gun shot residue test the same night just hours after the shooting occured. He tested negative for gun shot residue.(Meaning he had no particles of gun powder PERIOD!)
Joel Jones was arrested June 14, 2012 in Columbus, Mississippi. He was cooperative with law enforcement as far as searching his house and vehicle, and also submitting to a Gun Shot Residue test. https://www.google.com/amp/s/themississippilink.com/2012/06/19/two-injured-in-columbus-shooting/amp/ https://cdispatch.com/news/2012-06-15/two-injured-in-ash-street-shooting/
Not only did Joel Jones not commit this crime but the person who really did was allowed to walk free when he lied on Joel.
Joel Jones did not commit this crime and the state knows it. I implore you to do the research. https://casetext.com/case/jones-v-state-6676 The state basically said all evidence says Joel Jones did not do it but we need a conviction and we are not going to let him walk free. Do the research!!!
Despite State and Defense witnesses testifying Joel Jones was not the shooter he was still convicted. Even though Joel Jones has been convicted of something he didn't do, he has still maintained a positive mental attitude. He has graduated from the Blackstone Career Institute's Paralegal course, and has also taken advance courses in Criminal Law. He has also earned many other certificates throughout the years.
Everybody deserves a second chance at life, Joel Jones is not a violent person and has never had a violent charge and has maintained his innocence to date. Please sign this petition so we can help in the fight to get Joel Jones back home in time to raise his nine year old daughter. Thanks.
