Emily Love started this petition to Tasmanian State Government

Under the current Family Violence Legislation in Tasmania, Australia, people with a Family Violence Order placed on them can apply to have the conditions of the order changed.

The changes that can be applied for include; visiting children at the victim's house and to have the term 'safe housing' removed from the family violence order. This means that the person who has been abusive has the legal right to be at the victim's house and is likely to expose the victim and children to further abuse, as well as living in fear of abuse and makes the order pointless.

By removing the term 'safe housing' the abusive person is able to visit children even when the victim and children are living in temporary housing provided by women's shelters and domestic violence services. Making them pointless, as the abuser now knows where they are, the victim is not able to move on with his or her life as they are still living in fear of future violence.

We are asking that the Tasmanian government take strong action to protect women and children from future violence and to stop them living in fear by strengthening the family violence order so it actually helps victims and by making these amendments impossible.
