The US Department of Education has teamed up with NK and Taskstream, a corporation based in NYC. Education major college students, most of whom are financially struggling, are now being forced to pay $25 per semester or $67 per year to have online portfolios on Taskstream, which is mandated across the United States. There is no reason why our teaching portfolios need to be online, let alone to have to pay a ridiculous amount of money per semester to keep them online. An online portfolio can be, and should be, absolutely free.
As an educator, and graduate student in ELL (English Language Learning), I strongly believe in the importance of portfolios, so that teachers and teachers to be are evaluated in many different forms. However, Taskstream is nothing more than a money making scheme making multimillions of U.S. dollars off of education students.
This petition is requiring the US Department of Education to severe their ties with Taskstream until Taskstream allows us to have free online portfolios, otherwise non-online portfolios will work just fine.
