Why this petition matters

Started by Madi Casart

Within the past few years. Fentanyl overdoses have devastated thousands of friends and families. The Douglas County Attorney's office reported a 400% increase in fentanyl overdose deaths between 2019-2020. The parents of taryn Griffith ( a beautiful 24 year old girl who lost her life to a accidental fentanyl overdose in November of 2021) have been trying to create a law which they want to call “Taryns law” for Nebraska, a drug-induced homicide law. Which will criminalize the person found responsible for supplying the laced drugs that killed someone. They’ve spoken with Gov. Pete Ricketts, Attorney General Doug Peterson, and many other lawmakers. With the very recent passing of Monae Rokusek-Ward, who is suspected (not fully confirmed yet) to have passed from an accidental overdose, this bill needs to passed faster then ever.

Signing this petition will show your support in wanting this law passed immediately.
This law being passed will ensure the friends and families of the victims to this horrible crime, that the person responsible for supplying the drugs does not get away with “poisoning” their loved ones.
