Stay closed on Thanksgiving

As a Target employee for 4 years, I haven't been able to fully enjoy the holiday season with my family.  I usually had to leave in the middle of my Thanksgiving dinner, but this year I won't be able to attend at all.  Throughout this year, several of my family members have passed away so I have learned that family time is precious and should never be taken away from anyone.

Every year, the store hours for "Black Friday" becomes earlier and earlier that it takes away from family time for both employees and customers.  Thanksgiving is a time for friends and family; it isn't for deals, savings, and money.

Target is a company that usually values their employees and the hard work they put into their job, but those values vanish when it comes to this time of the year.  Target employees work very hard during the stressful holiday season but do not get the chance to enjoy the holidays for themselves.  With store hours getting longer for the busy season, don't you think their employees deserve one day with family and friends?

Many other major retailers, like Costco and TJMaxx, have taken the high road and have decided to allow their employees to spend Thanksgiving off.  By following these companies, Target would be a step above their major competitors (Walmart, Kmart, etc.).  In an article at Time.com, it states that roughly 6 out of 10 Americans hate or dislike the fact that stores are opening on Thanksgiving and more that 63,000 people have liked that Facebook page "Boycott Black Thursday".  There is a trend and growing popularity against stores opening on Thanksgiving.

By signing this petition, you stand for the belief that Thanksgiving is for family and friends.  We need to keep this American tradition out of the hands of corporate greed.  Signing it alone is not enough; please do not succumb to the "deals".  By adding fuel to the fire, the meaning of Thanksgiving will burn away and it will only be known as a shopping spree day.

Thank you for your time and support.
