Keep South Park local and unique - Keep large chains out and small businesses in

Target has recently announced it's plan to open a "TargetExpress" in the quaint, historic South Park neighborhood of San Diego. The addition of Target sets a precedent for the expansion of large chains, threatening our small, unique community by taking away it's one-of-a-kind character, weakening the local economy, and eliminating local businesses.
In her speech at the annual conference of the American Planning Association, ILSR’s Stacy Mitchell explained, "Locally owned businesses are disappearing, displaced by national chains that have limited ties and no long-term commitment to the community. …local stores create a sense of place and community identity. They reflect the local culture. They give neighborhoods their distinct flavor. They are often a source of community pride and an attraction to visitors. Chain stores, by contrast, are sapping communities of their character and individuality." (http://www.ilsr.org/impact-chain-stores-community/)
Help us protect this close-knit community and it's identity by telling Target and Council President, Todd Gloria, that large chains are not the right fit for South Park. Save South Park!
