Clarity Act to help addicts get into detox

This petition I am asking your support is to introduce a bill into law that a concerned person of an addict abusing drugs may make the decision for detox for them. Too often the addict will not reach out for help until its too late, nor will they accept the admission into a program. We need to combat this with a Clarity Act like this I am petitioning for. An addict will tell themselves, he or she does not need the help, it is in the nature of the disease to do so. When a family member calls for a bed they are advised until the addict calls there is nothing they can do, allowing the addict to remain in denial and continue to harm him or herself resulting in the epidemic we are seeing today in overdose deaths radically rising. Simply supplying addicts with Narcan just in case is not enough, If Narcan is administered in an overdose, the addict should not be able to walk away without going to detox. This Clarity Act would require the addict to be admitted until all narcotics are out of their system and possibly follow up with impatient program. I am an addict named Bill living in recovery since 10/11/2011 and know firsthand the benefits of forced treatment unfortunately I had to be forced through incarceration but the silver lining is it saved my life and I had that moment of Clarity to turn my life of suffering into service of helping others with the disease of addiction. Gov. Wolf just declared PA opioid crisis disaster today, in his words "Hopefully with this emergency declaration, we're able to smooth things out so we can get people into treatment (when they're ready)" This is great news except...this petition is to take that "when they're ready" part out of it, when they are ready is often too late. Please sign and support this petition in remembrance of our loved ones whom lost this battle and let's help save the lives of those still sick and suffering this moment in our communities. Thank you in advance for helping spread the Hope. Your friend in recovery, William Dougherty
