Irish Weddings started this petition to micheal.martin@oireachtas.ie and

Weddings due to take place in Ireland this year, which have been rescheduled to later in 2020 and 2021 are faced with an unprecedented worry and upset that they may not be able to have the wedding that they have dreamed of.

Brides and Grooms across the Country have been incredibly resilient this year. When their hopes,  dreams, wishes and all of their intricate planning were taken away from them, they postponed their weddings for the good of the people to a later date in 2020 and indeed into 2021.

One matter in particular that has upset and concerned all Wedding planners, Hotels, Venues, Vendors, Families and Couples across Ireland is that there has been a blanket restriction on numbers for gatherings without any consideration of the size and capacity of venues. Room capacity is currently not being determined by square footage.

Hoteliers and venues have worked tirelessly with Failte Ireland on the development of standards that cover all aspects of hotel and venue operations and facilities including guidance on how to safely host gatherings for different sized venues. Many hotels and venues are well advanced in their preparations to adapt their services and facilities in anticipation of larger gatherings and have also been making suitable preparations to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for special occasions.

This is an issue that Irish couples will remember forever and it is the beginning of their commitment together which they want to be able to share with their family and friends.

Please give this historic issue great consideration and sign this petition so that numbers of guest permitted is in direct correlation with venue capacities.
