I feel like the dress code at my school limits self expression. In my opinion, as long as your clothes are not inappropriate, you should be able to dress how you choose. We are teenagers. We have our own style and should be allowed to show that. Jeans, sweatpants, and hoodies are not inappropriate and should be allowed. Piercings other than the ears, “unnatural” hair colors, and backless shoes are normalized in today’s world, so they are not “distracting” anyone. I think it would be inappropriate to wear shorts that are too short or tops that show cleavage, but the things we want to wear do not fit into this category and are a form of self expression. The more signatures I get, the higher the chance is that the school board sees this.
