Allow Guide Dogs to Accompany People Who Are Visually Impaired in Malaysia
The visually impaired in Malaysia are at a disadvantage as guide dogs are not allowed on public transport and in many public spaces such as shopping centres etc making it difficult for people who are visually impaired to lead a fulfilling and independent life. Allowing guide dogs to accompany them would greatly improve their mobility and ability to be independent. A previous campaign by Mr. Stevens Chan of SOS Mission raised more than 100,000 supporters and I was moved and inspired by the story of the death of Mr. Chan’s guide dog LaShawn yesterday to start this petition. Hence, I would like to urge the same people and more to sign this and to petition for the amendment to the existing Disabilities Act 2008 to recognise guide dogs as service animals. Let us allow the visually impaired to be fully independent and empowered through this initiative and to be able to lead fulfilling lives.
We should stand united with our fellow citizens who have lost their sight and support their quest to make this happen and we call upon the Hon. Prime Minister to look into their plight and to take action now.
