Beth Castledine started this petition to Tamworth Borough Council

- To all who care about the future health of our town and residents. I would like to propose we put pressure on the council to plant fruit trees and create orchards: apricot, plum, apple, walnut, pear, cherry etc.

It would help with mental health as who doesn’t love gathering naturally grown produce for free, helps tackle obesity by offering a healthy free alternative and also gives people a reason to exercise, helps educate youngsters, helps the wildlife and bio diversity, and also helps the homeless.

Trees also help control flooding by stabilising to soil and sucking up flood water. Tamworth floods badly and regularly so planting trees in the long run will only again help to save money by lessening damages caused by water.

Grassy areas around the castle grounds would be perfect. Not to close to cars/pollution or highly congested paths so the odd few don’t complain about the falling fruit mess. But still central so easily accessible for all.

The cost of fruit trees are small at £10. Needing a few hundred trees to ensure cross pollination will cost around £2000/£3000. Our taxes already pay for the upkeep of local green areas. The maintenance of the trees can be controlled by the people who already work in groundskeeping for the council.

Let’s come out of COVID a stronger, better community ❤️
