Tampon Tax in Georgia
Tampon Tax in Georgia
Why this petition matters
I am the president and founder of PERIOD, a chapter of an international non-profit at North Gwinnett. Through my club, I have provided aid to girls across my community who could not afford or lack access to period products. Georgia is one of 23 states who apply a luxury good tax on period products such as tampons, pads, etc. To ensure all women have equal access to menstrual hygiene products it is essential for Georgia to repeal the additional luxury tax. Menstrual products are necessities, not luxuries, and should be taxed as so. Groceries and medical devices lack the additional tax because they are necessities just like tampons. This additional tax also known as the "Pink Tax" is discriminatory on the basis of sex. This tax is an issue of sex equity.
Make our Georgia representatives notice, we need to change this in our community.
