Colin Myers started this petition to Tampa City Council

This petition urges Tampa City Council to designate Bayshore Blvd. as an area where fines are doubled for speeding violations. Bayshore Blvd is one of Tampa's most popular attractions with some claiming it to be the longest continuous sidewalk in the world. Tourists and locals alike use the sidewalk for recreation and exercise while enjoying the view of Tampa Bay's picturesque skyline.

Despite the scenic setting of Bayshore there lies a history of tragic incidents involving both motorists and pedestrians. Last year racing on Bayshore led to the death of a mother and her 21 month old daughter and yesterday a jogger was killed with speed of the vehicle as a contributing factor. Doubling fines for speeding violations are proven to be effective at reducing traffic related incidents and are used in school and construction zones where pedestrian activity is high.

I walk Bayshore Blvd. often with my loved ones and want to feel safe in continuing to do so. Designating Bayshore Blvd. as a place where speeding fines are doubled comes at little cost to the city while the benefit could be life changing.
