Dear Ms. Fairburn: We want Mildred!!
Since October 1979, Mildred Harvey has played an integral role within Lawrence County School Systems and the community as a whole. Anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting Mildred will attest to her love and devotion for the students of Lawrence County. Whether it be working sporting events, driving buses, or substitute teaching, Mildred has always proved to be an indispensable asset to the schools. I would venture to say, there is not a more well known, respected, or liked member of the Lawrence County School District faculty and staff.
After committing much of her life to the school system, Ms. Harvey was informed she could no longer be employed by Lawrence County School district as a result of taking a job as a bus driver for Brookhaven Academy. The justification given was a perceived conflict of interest by Superintendent Tammy Fairburn and/or the Lawrence County School Board. As it is within the power of these elected officials to determine what constitutes a conflict, it is also within their power to waive any conflict of interest. As someone who conducts themselves with such integrity, it is unfounded to assert that Ms. Harvey would be unable to appropriately handle any conflict that arose from her employment with Brookhaven Academy.
Given the love, discipline, and comic relief Ms. Harvey has provided to students, faculty, and staff throughout her almost 37 year employment, it is safe to say that her absence from Lawrence County School System will be far more detrimental to the district than the conflict of interest perceived by the Lawrence County School District administration.
Please sign this petition to urge Ms. Fairburn and the Lawrence County School Board to waive any perceived conflict of interest and allow Ms. Mildred Harvey to continue enriching the lives of Lawrence County students (and families).
