Test our VETERANS for Agent Orange known diseases and give them a chance for treatment.

Vietnam veterans being treated by VA medical facilities are not always being tested for agent orange related diseases. If a veteran exhibits symptoms of any of the presumptive agent Orange diseases they deserve a diagnosis.
My husband was exposed to agent Orange in Vietnam. He trusted and depended on VA medical care. He exhibited many symptoms of AL Amyloidosis, yet he was never tested for it. It is a difficult disease to diagnose, but that is because it is rare. It is rare outside of exposure to chemicals used in Vietnam that is. VA doctors should be more well versed in these specific diseases and be trained to test for them.
With early treatment a veteran's life span and quality of life can be greatly improved. Unfortunately for my husband, Paul, there was no diagnosis until, in desperation we went to Mayo Clinic. He was diagnosed with AL Amyloidosis within a few days. It was too late for treatment and he passed away two weeks later.
Please sign this petition demanding a law that our Veterans get the care they deserve. I propose that VA medical personnel be required to test, when symptoms warrant, for known chemical exposure caused disease.
Our Veterans are suffering with severe, debilitating diseases that can and should be treated. I saw my husband suffer in agonizing pain and worse. He was told that no cause could be found for his illness. This is unacceptable treatment of those that sacrificed their lives for us. There was a treatment for him and many others. They suffer and die never knowing about it.
Test our Veterans for Agent Orange known diseases and give them a chance for treatment. I saw first hand the abject pain and suffering that AL amyloidosis causes. I took care of my dear husband Paul , a Vietnam veteran, until his death in 2016. He put all his trust in the Veteran's Administration doctors. Paul was never diagnosed by his doctors at the VA. He was also never tested for this disease that is on the list of presumptive diseases caused by agent orange exposure. Had he been tested he still would have been terminal. He could have, however, been treated properly and had a better quality of and extension of life. I have taken care of both my parents in their last days of cancer and heart failure. I can tell you that AL amyloidosis is far more ravaging than any cancer I have been unfortunate enough to witness. How many other veterans have this disease, suffer, and die without a diagnosis? My husband, thank God, was diagnosed two weeks before he passed away. Not by his doctors at the VA, but at Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN. We took him there in desperation looking for help. They diagnosed him within 2 days. He had a biopsy that confirmed the disease. While it was too late for him, at least he was finally being told that his pin was real and not in his head. This was a little comfort to him, just knowing what was wrong and he truly was sick. You see, his VA providers had suggested that since they could find no reason for his illness, he should just consider pain his "new normal". It was also recommended that he try meditation. This is unacceptable treatment of our Veterans. We beg of you to look into requiring the VA to test for known diseases caused by agent orange exposure. Any person that served in Vietnam deserves at least that much respect and care. Paul and his brothers in arms served our country and lay their lives on the line. Please, please help stop the suffering these heros are going through. My name is Wilma Perry and I wrote this petition on behalf of our dear veterans.
