We, the residents of Tameside and of Greater Manchester, request an urgent rethink on the GMSF and UDP/Local Plan to sell off green open spaces both large and small and carve up greenbelt/greenfields to build 13600 houses in the next 20 years. As your existing residents across all areas of Tameside we made Tameside our home for the 65% open space which is the jewel in the crown of Tameside and we need these spaces to breathe and exercise to reverse obesity trends. Public services and traffic infrastructure are already at breaking point and we have a shortage of school places. To make Tameside an attractive place to new residents we need to see our Town centres regenerated, traffic re-organised and air quality improved, brownfield sites rebuilt upon, our greenspaces saved, schools to be reopened and not sold for housing and transport links improved. Houses built need to be homes for local people and affordable housing needs to be affordable with a focus on social housing, shared ownership and schemes for young first time buyers. We need a Tameside for the many and not for the few.
