Recently Taco Bell announced the removal of the Mexican Pizza menu item, the reason they cited was the amount of paperboard waste that goes into packaging the item. The conversation of sustainability is important and necessary, however, there are other options than wholesale cutting of the beloved menu item. 

Sustainable packaging options are a viable alternative and a fast growing field. A thin foil packaging is a perfectly viable option, similar to that of the Crunchwrap Supreme. The only concern being that the melted cheese of the Mexican Pizza might stick or smear to the top of foil wrapper, that could be easily mitigated by a recycled cardboard or compostable paper table, similar to those found in pizza boxes. 

The point being, there are many options that Taco Bell could be exploring in order to save this beloved menu item. Don't let this be another loss in the terrible year that has been 2020.
