Fast food workers are not allowed to use “tip jars” because this is against the policy of most large fast food corporations. Working hard for a minimum wage, the additional money would greatly help fast food workers. Putting out some form of a tip jar at the walk-up and drive-through counters, or putting a tip option on receipts, would give costumers a way to tip. Currently, as there is no obvious way to leave a tip, customers who might otherwise leave a tip either don’t think to, or may feel uncomfortable doing so.

Economically this helps contribute more money to lower wage working class people, this doesn’t require money from the business owners, and this helps insensitive workers at their jobs.

On a human level tips let workers know they are appreciated and valued. Just the other day I gave a tip to the woman at the drive-thru window at my local Taco Bell. She said she often hears from other workers that they feel no one appreciates what they do.

Let us show our appreciation for those that serve us and let them know their jobs matter. This is a fair, democratic way for extra money and extra self-worth.
