Joseph Aloysius started this petition to Syro-Malabar Eparchy of Melbourne

There is a conscious, well schemed, and deliberate campaign being spread on social media platforms to defame, smear and denigrate Rev. Fr. Dominic Valanmanal, by posting doctored videos of the messages conveyed by him in his conventions, with an intent to mislead the public at large. Recently an online petition against him was started by a member of the Syro-Malabar community in Australia. As an immigrant from the same Syro-Malabar community of Kerala to Australia, I started this online petition to show our support for Fr. Dominic Valanmanal.

Fr. Dominic Valanmanal is a Catholic priest under the Syro-Malabar Eparchy of Kanjirapally, Kerala, India, serving as the Director of Marian Retreat Centre at Anakkara, Idukki. He has earned name and fame as an outstanding preacher of the Word of the Lord around the world by leading the “Krupabhishekam” retreats that have been attended by tens of thousands of people all around the world. His Facebook page has been followed by more than 50,000 people.

The online petition and the videos circulated in the social media claiming that Fr. Dominic Valanmanal is spreading hatred against children with disabilities are doctored, against the truth, and misleading. As a person who knows Fr. Valanmanal for years, I can ascertain that he is not such a person who spreads hatred. On the contrary, his messages have always been based on the strong foundation of Christian principles such as God’s love and mercy, faith, hope etc., as evident in the hundreds of videos of his preaching that are easily available on the Internet. The merged video clip was created to mislead people by taking parts of his different talks entirely out of the context of his original message. It is very unfortunate that such a manipulated video is used to spread hatred against Fr. Dominic Valanmanal even outside the Syro-Malabar community.

The online petition against Fr. Valanmanal even aims to stop him from coming to Melbourne for the retreat scheduled in September 2019. Hundreds of faithful have voluntarily registered for this retreat and are waiting eagerly for it in prayers. The organisers had to close the registration early and many are still registering their names in the waiting list as is evident in the message in the eparchy’s website itself.

This online petition was started to provide a common place for people to show their support for Fr. Dominic Valanmanal because I believe that it is the duty of those who like him and his preaching to show their support, especially at this stage when he is defamed publicly.

I request you to sign this petition to show your support for Rev. Fr. Dominic Valanmanal.
