Restore Funding for the Greater Syracuse Land Bank

The Syracuse Land Bank has sold 440 properties to date and is making a difference in Syracuse neighborhoods. They are about 1/2 way through acquiring the City's tax-foreclosed properties. The Syracuse Common Council voted to eliminate the program from the City's 2017-18 budget. The $1.5 million included in the Mayor's budget would fund demolitions. The Land Bank currently has over 250 demolition candidates that need to be addressed. The number one complaint they receive from neighborhood residents is about properties that are just sitting - these properties are awaiting demolition. This funding cut will jeopardize the Land Bank's ability to continue assembling properties for redevelopment projects and their ability to secure other grant funds since it shows that the City isn't invested in the program.
The 440 properties they've sold have attracted $17 million in private renovation investment, created 155 owner occupants, and 99% are sold to local buyers. Tell the Common Council you want to see this project continue and keep the Land Bank going!
