Soomi Chung started this petition to Syosset Central School District

The Coronavirus has become a pandemic and is effecting the world and has reached our country. The virus is spreading very quickly and I believe, for the safety and wellness of Syosset students, that school official must close down our schools. While other school districts in Long Island have closed due to the Coronavirus, for example, Plainview, St. Dominic School, Mineola, etc., the Syosset School district has not closed yet. Although, no one has been diagnosed with this virus in our town, I think it is absolutely absurd to close down schools after someone has contracted the virus. The virus is known to have an incubation period of 3-4 days and during those days, the person does not have any symptoms but is spreading the virus to others. If the school decides to close after someone is known to have the virus, many more will be infected than they would if the school shut down sooner. Students are in fear of coming to school, worried that they may be infected of this virus. And even if the death rates are very low and mostly affect people with weak immune systems, the elderly, or people with other health conditions, some students are one of these people and we have loved ones at home who are these groups of people as well. Students are missing school because their parents are worried that they will get the virus at school. They are missing school work but the school is still not doing anything. We do not want to spread the virus anymore. This petition was inspired by another student in the Syosset High School. Please sign this petition to make a change
