The Dalai Lama speaks consistently about the need for all of us to treat all other creatures with kindness and compassion. This is important in its own right. In addition, having an intention to act with caring towards others requires us to be more intentional and empathic in our dealings with others. This type of approach has potential to decrease the number of times we all hurt each other through carelessness. Finally, the world and undoubtedly your city and campus, only benefit when there are more voices telling us to care for each other. It is always an error to silence such voices.

Freedom of speech must be allowed and if it is squashed by universities then what hope do we have?

Universities should hold the free exchange of ideas as sacred. To deny the opportunity to the university and wider community to share thoughts with someone of such eminence as the Dalai Lama is contrary to this spirit.

If it's appropriate, why not let the man speak? Stop thinking about funding and think about integrity!

Dalai lama is an icon and role model for many in the world. His wisdom, purity and intelligence is paramount. We live in a country where free voice is treasured, this should not even be a discussion, it is a right to let the Dalai Lama talk.

The so called "free world" should not bow for the economical interest of China.
The Dalai Lama is a great example of peaceful resistance and his message should be spread around the globe.
