Stop the demolition of two historic gems in Sydney

Stop the demolition of two historic gems in Sydney
Why this petition matters
Sydney's historic buildings need protecting. In the face of rampant development we stand to lose connection to the past life of our city. Two properties of historical significance sitting side by side in George St Sydney are the subject of an ambitious Development Application D/2019/882. The Globe Theatre (106 years old) and Dudley House (97 years old) are the subject of this DA. The proposal is to demolish these two buildings to make way for a 31 storey mixed use building. Attempts by the National Trust to get an interim heritage order for both of these two buildings was denied in October 2019. For more information see a great article in the Guardian on Sunday March 1, 2020 by Stephanie Convery (Twitter@gingerandhoney) who states that "Both have been determined by the National Trust to be rare, "irreplaceable" elements of Sydney's architectural and cultural history". We need to rely on the voices of the people of this city and from further afield to make it clear that we do not approve of our heritage being destroyed for yet another skyscraper in Sydney. In the best version of Sydney, these buildings would be lovingly restored but for now let's just stop the demolition of these jewels. Please sign the petition and share as far and wide as possible while this is still under assessment by City of Sydney Council.
