Protect Croft/Ambrose Field: Petition to create new community forest

Parish Cllr Nick Burns-Howell & Cllr Claire Ellis are calling on Cllr Toby Elliott, Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning and Sustainability and Cllr Kevin Parry, Chair of the Planning Committee, to allocate Croft/Ambrose field as a community forest, to preserve it for generations to come.
We have campaigned for many months alongside local residents against Taylor Wimpey’s plans to build 62 homes on the site of Croft/Ambrose field. There is clearly a groundswell of opposition from the local community towards this inappropriate development, which falls outside of Swindon’s Local Plan.
While we understand the need for, and support, development in Swindon it needs to be sustainable and in the right places.
We know that planning permission for over 7,000 new homes has already been granted elsewhere in the Borough and would urge builders to proceed with them. Croft/Ambrose Field is a vital green and open space, which, once it is lost, could never be replaced.
Swindon Borough Council has the power to earmark the plot as a community forest, which would not only create an asset for the whole Swindon community to enjoy, but would also preserve Croft/Ambrose field into the future.
Please lend your support to our petition to help stop this unacceptable development and protect Ambrose/Croft Field.
