Ben Blakey started this petition to Swindon Borough Council

Clifton St School is a valuable part of Swindon's heritage, which has been eroded in the name of progress. Swindon has very few buildings of historical importance, especially 'New Swindon' which was born after the Great Western Railway decided to build their world famous works here.

As New Swindon developed, more houses appeared, as well as the amenities needed for the increasing population. Clifton St School was built in 1884 to deliver the education for the local residents.

Developers have run roughshod over Swindon's heritage for many years. We have lost many buildings of importance to the greed of developers, who often do not consider the heritage aspect or the sentimental attachment to our few remaining historical buildings, or the architectural importance of them. We lost the Baptist Tabernacle, the future of The Mechanics Institute, and the Corn Exchange (aka The Locarno) is the subject of many debates over many years with their structures slowly but surely deteriorating to the point of inevitable demolition. We lost Even Swindon School, it is imperative that Clifton Street School is not only saved from demolition, but also restored.

Sukhvir Singh MANDER of G & D Estates, SLOUGH is the developer who owns the property, and has already unlawfully demolished a section without the permission of Swindon Borough Council. We cannot trust this person with a significant part of Swindon's social history.

As well as signing the petition, can you please follow the link below to raise an objection directly to Swindon Borough Council, quoting reference number S/18/1997        https://www.swindon.gov.uk/info/20030/planning_and_regeneration/380/view_or_make_comment_on_a_planning_application

We, the undersigned, call upon Swindon Borough Council to reject planning permission for the demolition of Clifton Street School, and to force Sukhir Singh Mander of G&D Estates, Slough to pay for the rectification of unlawful works upon the aforementioned building, as well as all subsequent damage caused by weather due to the exposed sections caused by the unlawful works.
