With the proliferation of food delivery apps in India, companies such as swiggy, zomato and uber eats deliver food from restaurants in single use plastics. This is counter to what states like tamil nadu are trying to achieve by going plastic free. Cities should be levying a garbage tax to handle the large volumes of trash generated by these companies in order to prevent accumulation of waste in landfills. Tax should be levied on all large food delivery companies.

The collected tax can be used to subsidize garbage segregation at source or provide additional incentives to recyclers to keep trash out of landfills.
