Support a virtual learning option for the spring 2022 semester
The Omicron variant of COVID-19 is surging through communities during the cold winter months, penetrating regular cloth masks and infecting people who are even fully vaccinated and boosted. The people in the community of Sweet Briar College will not be spared unless we take action now to put in place a virtual learning option for the spring semester of 2022. With the current guidelines in place, a student will fall behind in their classes if they test positive for COVID-19 or even if they fall ill to the flu or another virus. The administration at Sweet Briar College has blatantly refused to offer a virtual learning option because it is reportedly "not an option" they can get behind right now. But we have the resources to enable a virtual learning option, the administration just refuses to utilize them. All the while students will be allowed to go to class business as usual and continue the spread of the Omicron variant, endangering the lives of the unvaccinated and endangering the health of the vaccinated, professor and student and staff member alike. We all have a right to our own health and a right to keeping our health in good condition; our studies should not be above our health. Our health should always come first.
