Support Mumbles Skate park on the site of the current ramp at Llwynderw

The current ramp has been located next to the promenade at Llwynderw for the past 18 years. During that time it has been the main location for skateboarding on Swansea seafront.

With the current rise in popularity of the sport and with it the demand for a facility that would suit all levels of ability from absolute beginner to aspiring Olympian we believe the facility needs a long overdue upgrade.

Everyone knows the ramp on the seafront and skaters, riders and users of all kinds see it's limitations. The planned upgrade would see the current facility transform from a tired metal halfpipe to a multi use world class skate park that would benefit the whole community and be something we could all be proud of. The plans are for a facility that would nurture a passtime that is now recognised as an Olympic sport.

Unlike the current facility the new upgraded skatepark would cater to all ages and abilities with a separate area for beginners making the park more inclusive and a safer environment than the one currently on offer. At the same time it will offer challenging obstacles for more advanced riders and as such offer an area for progression for all users.

The new facility will also complement the landscape and be far less intrusive than the current ramp as it is set into the ground rather than above it. Also being made of far more durable materials there would be little to no maintenance required. It would be a bespoke design that has had much input from local skaters and Maverick Skateparks who are a professional and world class skatepark building company.

All wheeled sports will be catered for in the same area the current skate facility already occupies. Skateboards, BMX, scooters and the fast growing Wheelchair MX scene will all be able to use the facility.

Skateboarding is both a legitimate sport recognised by the Olympics and also an activity anyone can participate in at their own level and pace. It's many benefits are plain to see from promoting health and wellbeing to developing social skills and fostering a welcoming community of like minded participants. The benefits to both the local community and individuals health are huge.

Please take a moment to sign our petition to help get the updated facility we believe our community deserves. This is as close as Mumbles has ever come to having an innovative and contemporary skatepark. Every signature counts and helps moves this project from a plan to reality. Thank you for your support
