Recently Swansea Council, due to budget cuts, have reviewed the number of crossing patrols ('Lollipop' ladies/gentlemen) and have decided to make some positions redundant.

One of these is the patrol of Debbie John who is positioned on the crossing outside Parkland Primary School in Sketty Park, Swansea.

600 children attend Parkland Primary School and therefore, over the course of a week, there are thousands of journeys made into and out of the school. Many of these are using the Sketty Park Drive crossing patrol.  This is one of the busiest roads in the area, especially for commuter traffic, and we feel that the proposed removal of the crossing patrol will put children's lives at risk.

Too often cars jump pedestrian lights in a hurry to get through rush hour traffic or totally block the safe passage of pedestrians when it is their turn to cross. However at the Parkland Primary crossing, the lollipop lady does an invaluable job of ensuring this does not happen. She makes her presence known to oncoming traffic and ensures that children only cross the road when it is entirely safe to do so, and not taking for granted that cars will stop when a light is turning red.

Please help us to demonstrate the need to keep the lollipop lady outside Parkland Primary School by signing and sharing our petition.

Thank you!
