Sutter Health intends to close Alta Bates Hospital—Berkeley’s only acute-care and birthing center hospital—as early as 2019, in a move that would deprive our community of a critical facility which provides vital services to East Bay residents, like labor and delivery, emergency room, and intensive care.
Closing Alta Bates will force tens of thousands of patients to seek care further away, endangering our health and safety. Please reconsider the ramifications of your actions on the quality of life of the residents of Berkeley and our neighboring communities throughout the East Bay.
Berkeley and our neighboring communities need a full service acute-care hospital. Please keep Alta Bates as a full service hospital in Berkeley!
Letter sent to Sarah Krevans, CEO of Sutter Health:
"As a community member, I feel strongly that Sutter must reverse its plans to shut down the Alta Bates campus in Berkeley. Our community depends on the hospital for life-threatening crises and other acute care services. Closing Alta Bates will force our community residents to seek care further away which would endanger our health and safety. Berkeley and our neighboring communities need a full service acute-care hospital. Please keep Alta Bates as a full service hospital in Berkeley!"
