Why this petition matters

Started by Soham Patel

Some global causes that can affect the air would be industrial factories with their fumes that would reach out to the layers of the atmosphere and damage it. Fossil fuel is a pretty big problem to the air because be burns so much of it up which leaves smoke and fumes in the air that can harm the atmosphere. Another one would be the fishermen who sometimes leave behind all types of equipment that they threw into the water because it broke trying to catch fish which is harming the water. Then there are the chemical factories that would harm the water by throwing away chemical waste which can mutate or kill things that are near the surrounding which is big because the chemicals can spread pretty quickly and far in the water.

One more thing that can harm the water would be oil leaks from mining and ships that have large amounts of oil that sunk into the water. There are many more things that can harm the water but these are the many that stand out the most to me, there are some natural things like volcanos that can cause these pollutions but other than that it is mostly humans who cause this. Some global environmental effects that could occur are losing types of environments like the rainforest, jungle, polar, and aquatic to list some. This can be a major problem because when you think about it the environment around us, what helps us build everything we have like buildings from wood, rocks, and other things, then jewelry is made out of stuff like silver, gold, diamond, etc.? There could also be major changes in weather like acid rain which could harm the water even more and decay building.

Another major problem would be global climate change, this can impact us in a huge way because climate change can change when the sessions occur, temperature changes in places that can harm it like Antarctica. Air pollution also has a range of effects on crops and trees. It reduced agricultural crop and commercial forest yields, reduced growth and survivability of tree seedlings, and increased plant vulnerability to disease, pests, and other environmental stresses (such as harsh weather) are all possible consequences of ground-level ozone. Water pollution can also harm land animals because things like bears hunt for fish sometimes and them not having that means that they would starve while hibernating. The water can also harm the aquatic life by killing the fish from waste or hunting and if we do that then we will lose the aquatic environment, the fishes thrive in the environment and if they go then the environment will die out with them. To make these problems stand out more I will give an example of a polluted city and the danger of one.

An example of a polluted city would be Los Angeles. I say this because when you look at Los Angeles compared to other cities it has bad fumes that harm the oxygen and really high temperatures that can harm people. There are many wildfires there and more times than others they have too high or low of humidity. There is a lot of trash being thrown into the water as well as having recyclable stuff being in the trash can because people don’t care enough. But it’s not all the people's problem because the place that Los Angeles was built in was supposed to be very humid and hot, plus it was a place that has many disasters on the regular.

The laws for pollution in Los Angeles are very lackluster as well because they don’t have direct laws to the problems but more so groups and encouragement. This would not work as well as they think it will because someone people won’t do something unless they are forced to. So even with the encouragement people still litter and still polluted the air. I sent out a survey to people to see how much the average citizen knows about pollution and the results varied in ways.

The average citizen knows a majority of what’s causing and the effect of pollution from the data I have collected. They seem to know that all the greenhouse gasses, fossil fuels, and factories can be harming the air and that plastic waste and chemicals can harm the ocean. The thing they don’t know is how the harming can affect us, like not having freshwater doesn’t just mean we don’t have water to drink but also means that we are losing animals that can be extinct. Then for the air pollution, it isn’t the problem of all the layers being destroyed because before that happens we would die from not having oxygen from the first layer being broken. It isn’t the fact that they don’t know the effects that this pollution has on us but just that they are worried about the small things or about just one of the many things that it can do to harm us. Overall the people that did my survey seemed to know from somewhat to mostly what pollution is about, effects, and reasons to stop it.

This petition will make sure that all these problems will be taken care of. I have come up with some solutions to all of these problems but I will also need your help to achieve this and bring more solutions out. For water pollution, I can think of things like starting an organization to help pick up trash every 2 or 3 days and the organization will try its best to stop businesses from dumping trash and chemicals into the water. Making sure that fishermen pick up all the wires and stuff that they used to catch fish so that it doesn’t harm anything else in the water is another way. For air pollution, I can think of things like changing the motor vehicle industry into a fully electric one so that no gas would be needed and no fumes would be released.  Then there is also fossil fuel that is being burnt up for oil and other resources which we can’t stop but reduce the usage of fossil fuels.

We are already stopping this by trying to change the motor vehicle industry because gas is a major consumption of fossil fuel and we can also reduce the use of fossil fuel by using other energy sources like solar or wind. This will all take a huge amount of help but with every member that we get; we get closer and closer to our goal of making the world a more eco-friendly place.
