There have been multiple instances whereby Sussex University have failed to respond to allegations of sexual assault and rape. This is both a past and modern problem. Students do not feel safe on campus and a lack of punishment allows people to believe that they cant act this way as there are no real consequences. 

Previous consequences that Sussex University have elicited are a course to understand how to respect women in response to a sexual assault allegation. This response is not creating change and allows for the continuation of this type of behaviour. 

There should be a zero-tolerance policy for rape and sexual assault crimes, with serious investigations into the situation and support for the victims. This should be laid out in official terms of agreement of being a student as Sussex, and breaking this agreement should be treated with the highest importance.
