As a historian the preservation of the past is extremely important to me. As a resident of Sussex County the preservation of my hometowns past is a passion.

It's important to preserve the mansion because it was the home of the first settler of Newton. The building is a beautiful representation of the town's history, and the school could always use the building for something like a museum, or something extra for the school.

Preserving the history of our county is paramount to future generations. The Freeholder Board needs to take a proactive stance on this once again as it has been pushed to the back burner in the past 5 years. Shame on our leaders for failing to help preserve our precious history for generations to come. Now is the time to get back on the right track and the Horton Mansion on the grounds of our local community college is a great way to begin with salvaging what is left of our heritage.

We need to preserve our past. So much of it has burned down or been cleared out for other structures. I am sure that this landmark would have a role to play as library or study hall anything but a parking lot!

Politicians are too quick to eliminate historical sites and structures for things like driveways and parking lots. We all lose when are history is tossed aside.

It's a beautiful structure that can add to the tradition and aesthetic of the campus. It would make a terrific home for the Betty Jean Silconas Poetry Center, now located in a single room in the library.
