S D started this petition to Susquehanna School Board

I and many others within the Susquehanna school district are unhappy with the schedule of the typical school day .

Both students and faculty members have to get up absurdly early in the day — and are drowsy and unfocused throughout the day .

Making literal children ( of which typically have to sleep longer than any other age group ) wake up from 4:30 - 6 in the morning for school is practically child abuse . Especially when the school day lacks any breaks for students or teachers alike excluding a short lunch period .

Many people aren’t satisfied with the way things are right now — as I’ve already stated. So I recommend that we adjust the current schedule to fit the needs and wants of the students and faculty members alike .

Our first course of action — shift the school hours altogether . Pretty simple - typically there’s 7 hours we spend in school , therefore we should move the entire day ( 7:27am - 2:27 ) at least two hours back, to around 9:27 am - 4:27 .

This would allow for both students and faculty members to sleep in a bit longer and not have to be awake before the sun rises . And another perk is that , because many adults work 9 to 5 - students would be able to get home around the same time as them and not have to spend as much time home alone without an adult .

The extra sleep alone would promote a better sleep schedule for the teenage students ( who on average stay up later than adults or children ) . And let them actually have time to eat breakfast and practice hygiene .

Another plus is that , when students are tired - we get cranky , we get drowsy and unfocused . More sleep equals being able to learn easier , as well as keeping cranky , tired , and angry students from being violent towards each other in some circumstances .

In conclusion , I — and many others within the school district believe pushing back the school day altogether would be beneficial .
