Why this petition matters

Started by Stuart Barrington

In March 2021, Vladimir Putin ordered the Russian military to begin a massive deployment of nearly 200,000 troops near the border with Ukraine and in Crimea. This provoked an international crisis and raised fears of a possible invasion. The crisis was a consequence of the ongoing war in Donbass, which began in 2014. In December 2021, Russia put forward two draft treaties containing demands for "security guarantees", including a legally binding promise that Ukraine would not join NATO and the reduction of NATO military equipment deployed in Eastern Europe.

On 21 February 2022, Russia officially recognized the two breakaway regions in Ukraine, the Donetsk People's Republic and the Luhansk People's Republic, as independent states and deployed troops into Donbass, which was perceived as Russia's de facto withdrawal from the Minsk Protocol.

On the morning of February 24, Putin announced that Russia was launching a "special military operation" and launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

As of today (March 4, 2022) the illegal invasion of Ukraine by Russia continues.

  • The UN has condemned Russia[1]
  • Global sanctions have been imposed[2] from companies such as Apple, Mercedes-Benz and bp
  • The IOC has banned Russian athletes from a multitude of sports[3]
  • The UCI has revoked the Russian and Belarusian team[4]
  • Cultural boycotts are being imposed on Russia from around the world[5]

Within Russia non-state run press outlets are being closed and access to international press is being restricted[6]. The Russian public are receiving state run propaganda about the invasion[7] .

This Petition requests that Zwift, TrainerRoad, Wahoo (SYSTM), FulGaz, RGT and Rouvy join the above bodies in the international condemnation of the illegal invasion and suspend access to their platforms from cyclists in Russia until such time that the above global restrictions and sanctions are lifted.
