Why this petition matters

Started by Sarah C

On June 16, 2019, Quebec's National Assembly passed Bill No. 21, which prohibits the display of religious symbols by public-sector workers in the workplace. This Bill specifically targets Muslim women and the Muslim community, along with other religions. Muslim women who choose to wear niqab and hijab have the right to freedom of expression and religion, but these rights are taken away because of this Bill. While Islamophobia has been on the rise in Canada, the rights of Muslim Canadians who live in Quebec have also been threatened and continue to be while Bill No. 21 is in place.
