Why this petition matters

Started by DR Al Pelphrey

Joel Pett who is employed by the Lexington Herald Leader created a cartoon depicting flood victims of the latest flooding disaster in Eastern Kentucky.  His cartoon made fun of the “poor people” of Eastern Kentucky who have experienced horrific damage to homes and loss of life. Mr Pett shows a immense lack of understanding and compassion.  His cartoon utilized a long standing stereotype depicting ALL people of Eastern Kentucky.  His “art” was mean spirited, insensitive, cruel, and insulting.

We the undersigned call on the Herald Leader to suspend without pay or fire Mr Pett for his depiction of the entire population of Eastern Kentucky.

We also state that we will cancel all subscriptions to the Herald Leader until Mr Pett is either fired or suspended.
