Remove exploitative language from employee contracts.

Remove exploitative language from employee contracts.
The Issue
Last year, the Texas Association of School Boards released model contract language regarding teacher compensation. This language change opened the door to teachers’ workload being greatly increased with no additional compensation. Killeen ISD approved this contract.
According to the contract language, the teacher is agreeing that he/she will work as many days as the district requires, regardless of whether those are "contract days." Under this provision, the theory of "contract days" goes out the window and a teacher could be required to work every single day of their 10 month contract, regardless of whether it is a "work day." This means a teacher could be required to work 300 days instead of 187.
This contract language effectively beats up on educators at a time when district employees have had no salary improvements, their health insurance premiums increased, and are being asked to do more with less. While the district may state that this language will not be exploited by administrators, we cannot take this on faith. If that is the case, why include the language in the first place?
Join us in urging the Killeen ISD Board of Trustees to do the right thing for their employees and remove this exploitative language.
