Petition for surveillance cameras and signage around Walnut and Holland Park

I have lived at  Walnut Avenue directly across from Walnut and Holland Park since February 2020. I have been blessed to watch young and old enjoy this park. Sadly it has been plagued with drug deals. Even so, this part of Lindenwold has always felt safe. I call it my little sanctuary...

Until Wednesday June 8th, 2022 at approximately 8:15 pm. While my 77 year old "Auntie" and were sitting in front of our living window, gunfire ran out resulting a young man getting shot. I have NEVER felt so terrified in my life.

If that gun were facing towards my home instead of the park, my sweet elderly lady could have caught a stray bullet. An innocent old lady watching Marry Poppins could have been killed.

Only 30 minutes prior to this madness, children were walking home from the park. Our children deserve better. They deserve a park free of drugs and violence. Our seniors should not have to be afraid to sit by their windows for fear of stray bullets. I should not feel so angry that the sanctity of our quiet neighborhood was so senselessly shattered.

This behavior will only continue to occur if there are not visible deterrents showing that as a community we will not tolerate criminal behavior. There needs to be cameras and signage visible throughout our park. This is not a wealthy neighborhood and not everyone can afford to purchase or maintain personal surveillance cameras.

Please help our community stay safe by putting up cameras around Walnut and Holland Park.
